If a product is manufactured to metric dimensions and those dimensions exceed the tolerances specified in the inch-pound units, a request should be made to the specification preparing activity for changes to this document.
3.8 Measurement system. The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regarded as the standard. The values stated in parentheses are for information purposes only.
3.9 Commercial item. The use of the term “commercial item description” in this document does not imply that any item or items offered are not required to conform with all requirements specified herein.
4. QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS
4.1 Contractor certification. The contractor shall certify that the item meets the salient characteristics and the requirements of this commercial item description, and, except for any government unique requirements specified, conforms to the producer’s own drawings, specifications, standards, and quality assurance practices, and is the same product offered for sale in the commercial marketplace, or is the same product that has been successfully been delivered to the government on a previous contract or purchase order. The government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance prior to the first delivery and thereafter as may be otherwise provided for under the provisions of the contract.
4.2 Responsibility for inspection. Unless otherwise specified in the contract or purchase order, the contractor is responsible for the performance of all inspection requirements as specified herein. Except as otherwise specified in the contract or order, the contractor may use his own or any other facilities suitable for the performance of the inspection requirements specified herein, unless disapproved by the Government. The Government reserves the right to perform any of the inspections set forth in the specification where such inspections are deemed necessary to assure that supplies and services conform to prescribed requirements.
4.3 Sampling. The levels of inspection and acceptable quality levels (AQL’s) shall be in accordance with MIL-STD-105.
4.4 Lot formation. All breadboxes from the same manufacturer offered for delivery at one time shall be considered a lot for purposes of inspection.
4.5 Sampling for visual and dimensional examination. A random sample of breadboxes shall be selected from each lot in accordance with inspection level S-4, AQL 4.0 expressed in terms of defects per hundred units. The sample unit shall be one finished breadbox.
