3.2.2 Type II, Household Use. The overall length of the type II turners shall be 12-1/4 inches (31.1 cm), + 3/4 inch. The type II turners shall have either a corrosion-resisting steel or chrome plated carbon steel flat shank with a minimum thickness of 0.060 inch (1.5 mm). An alternative shank design shall be round with a minimum diameter of 7/32 inch (5.6 mm). The handle of the type II household turners have a hanging hole or slot near the end of the handle. The hole or slot shall be a minimum 1/4” (6.4 mm) opening. The handle shall be a minimum of 4-1/4 inches (10.8 cm) in length. The angle between the blade and shank shall be a minimum of 15 degrees. The width of the blade at the leading edge shall be 2-3/4 inches (7.0cm), + 3/8 inch. The width of the blade may increase as it approaches the handle. The blade length shall be 4 inches (10.2 cm), + 1/2-inch. The blade shall have a series of holes or slots through the blade.
3.2.2.1 Style D, Metal blade. The style D food turner shall have metal blade made from either corrosion-resisting steel or chrome plated carbon steel. The blade shall have a minimum thickness of 0.013 inch (0.33mm) and a Rockwell hardness of B85 to 90 when measured in accordance with ASTM E 18.
3.2.2.2 Style E, Nylon blade. The style E food turner shall have a nylon blade with a minimum thickness of 0.070 inch (1.8 mm) when measured one inch back from the leading edge.
3.3 Marking. The food turners shall be marked with the manufacturer’s name, trade name, or trademark of such known character that the source may be readily determined.
3.4 Workmanship. The food turners shall be clean and free from dirt, rough or sharp edges (except for the front edge of the blade), slivers, burrs, deep scratches, tool marks, or other defects which may affect appearance or serviceability. Handles shall be shaped or contoured in accordance with the manufacturer’s commercial practice to provide a comfortable and positive grip. Handle and tang shall fit flush and all corners and edges of handles, except ends, shall be rounded.
3.5 Metric products. Products manufactured to metric dimensions will be considered on an equal basis with those manufactured using inch-pound units, providing they fall within tolerances specified and all other requirements of this document are met. If a product is manufactured to metric dimensions and those dimensions exceed the tolerances specified in the inch-pound units, a request should be made to the contracting officer to determine if the product is acceptable.
3.6 Standard commercial product. The food turners shall, as a minimum, be in accordance with the requirements of this CID and shall be the manufacturer’s standard commercial product. A standard commercial product is a product which has been sold or is currently offered for sale on the commercial market through advertisements, manufacturer’s catalogs, or brochures, and represents the latest production model.
4. REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS
4.1 NSF International compliance. The contractor shall submit to the contracting officer or authorized representative, prior to awarding of contract, satisfactory evidence that the type I items offered meet the requirements of NSF International Criteria C-2. Satisfactory evidence of this compliance may be any of the following:
