3.7 End item testing. One can opener from the production lot shall be tested as specified below. Any test failure shall be cause for rejection of the lot.
3.7.1 Performance test. The can opener shall cut the tops of one circular, and one elliptical can without leaving a sharp edge or any protrusion in the can. The top of each can shall be completely severed. During the test, the lid lifter shall come in contact with the can lid and after the lid is completely cut off from the can, the lid shall hold the can lid away from the can.
3.7.2 Stability test of Type II openers. The lid of one number 10 can having a minimum gross weight of 10 pounds shall be cut open. The opener shall not tilt or slide during the opening of the can.
4. PACKAGING
4.1 Packaging and packing. Packaging and packing shall be commercial or export as specified (see 5.2).
4.2 Commercial packaging and packing. Each can opener shall be packaged and packed in accordance with ASTM D 3951.
4.3 Export packaging. Each can opener shall be packaged in snug-fitting fiberboard box conforming to style RSC, class domestic, grade 175 of PPP-B-636.
4.3.1 Export packing. Four can openers, packaged as specified, shall be packed in a snug-fitting fiberboard shipping container conforming to style RSC, class domestic, grade 275 of PPP-B-636.
4.4 Marking (commercial and export). Marking of unit packs and shipping containers shall be in accordance with FED-STD-123 or MIL-STD-129, as applicable.
