the cutting wheel shall not be less than 3/4 inches. The cutting wheel shall be mounted on a floating shaft and secured to the body of the can opener and shall be penetrate the top of the can adjacent to the inside of the can bead by pressure applied by an eccentric lever.
2.1.3 Mounting (Type II). The type II opener shall be furnished with either a vertical shaft and a clamp for mounting to a table or shall have four rubber or composition supports attached to the bottom of the body to prevent movement of the opener when in use. When a shaft and clamp are used, the clamp shaft shall be capable of holding the vertical shaft of the opener at any desired height.
2.2 Electrical characteristics. The openers shall operate on a 120 volts ac, 60hz. When specified (see 5.2), the openers shall operate on a 220 volt ac, 50hz.
2.4 Codes and standards. The can openers shall comply with the following code:
Underwriters Laboratories, Inc. Standard No.73: Motor Operated Appliances.
2.5 Instruction plate. Each can opener shall bear instructions stamped on a stainless steel plate riveted to the body or indented in the body. Plastic bodies shall be provided with a decalcomania containing the required instructions. As a minimum, instructions shall include replacement of the cutting and feed wheels, a method for accomplishing clearance between the cutting and feed wheels, and a method for lubricating the moving parts.
2.6 Identification marking (“Government unique” requirement). Each can opener shall be permanently and legibly marked with the manufacturer’s identification marking. Use of “stick-on” or removable labels is prohibited.
2.7 Operation parts. Each opener shall be provided with 3 sets of cutting wheels, and cutting wheel studs (when applicable) attached to the base (Type I) or clamping bracket (Type II). Lubrication for operational parts will not be capable of leaking, dripping, or being forced onto food or food contact surfaces. Lubricants listed in USDA Pub 1419 as safe lubricants for food contact use will be used.
3. QUALITY ASSURANCE
3.1 Certification. The contractor shall certify, and maintain substantiating evidence that the product offered meets the salient characteristics and requirements of this Commercial Item Description, and except for those “Government unique” requirements specified, that the product conforms to the producer’s own drawings, specifications, standards, and quality assurance practices is the same product offered for sale in the
