COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
DISHPAN (Food Container Pan)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial
item description for all Federal agencies.
1. SCOPE
1.1 Scope. This commercial item description (cid) covers
corrosion-resisting steel dishpans also known as food container or utility
pans.
2. CLASSIFICATION
2.1 Classification. The dishpans shall be of the following sizes, as
specified (see 7.2).
Size 1 - 12 quart [11.4 L)
Size 2 - 20 quart (18.9 L)
3. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS
3.1 Material. The dishpans shall be formed from corrosion-resisting steel
conforming to a type 300 series in accordance with ASTM A 167.
3.2 Construction. The dishpan shall be formed from a single piece of
corrosion-resisting steel (except for the handles) and shall contain no seams.
The bottom shall be indented. The dishpan shall conform to the dimensions
listed in table I and shown on figure 1.
3.2.1 Handles. The handles for the dishpans shall be loop type
fabricated from 518 inch (15.9 mm) minimum outside diameter corrosion-resisting
steel tubing. The ends shall be flattened and secured to the body by multiple
spot welds or by a continuous weld all around the flattened ends. An alternate
handle construction for the size 1, 12 quart pan may be handles formed from
flat stock 9/16 inch (14.3 mm) minimum width with a minimum thickness of 1/16
inch (1.6 mm).
3.3 Finish. The dishpans shall be cleaned and polished to a No. 2B or
better finish as defined by the American Iron and Steel Institute’s Handbook,
“Finishes for Stainless Steel”.
3.4 Performance requirements. The dishpans shall be capable of being
filled with water to rated capacity, lifted by the handles above the resting
surface, and held for a period of one minute and repeated for a total of ten
complete cycles without visible signs of deformation, leakage, or other damage.
The dishpans shall be capable of tolerating this process for a minimum of ten
complete cycles.
