COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
MEASURE, LIQUID (Aluminum)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description for all Federal agencies.
1. SCOPE
1.1 Scope. This commercial item description (cid) covers aluminum liquid measures for institutional kitchen usage.
2. CLASSIFICATION
2.1 Classification. The measures shall be of the following sizes, as specified.
Size 1 – 2 quart capacity (1.9 L)
Size 2 – 4 quart capacity (3.8 L)
3. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS
3.1 Design and construction. The liquid measures shall be formed seamless from a single piece of 3000 series aluminum alloy in the general design of figure 1. The body shall have a minimum thickness of 0.043 inch (1.1 mm) for the size 1 measure and 0.048 inch (1.2mm) for the size 2 measure. The sidewalls of the measure shall be straight. The body of the measure shall have three continuous grooves rolled inward or outward and spaced in a manner to mark the measure capacity in four equal divisions. The top edge of the measure shall be flanged outward to form a pouring lip. The capacity tolerance of the measures shall be plus or minus 10 percent.
3.1.1 Handle. Each measure shall be fitted with a strap handle formed form 3000 series aluminum alloy stock measuring 7/8 inch (2.22 cm) in width by 0.060 inch (1.5 mm) thickness. The handle shall be riveted or welded with corrosion resistant material to the body. The handle shall be located diametrically opposite the high point of the pouring lip. The handle shall be a minimum of 3 inches (7.6 cm) in height and have a minimum clearance space of 1 inch (2.5 cm) between the measure body.
3.2 Finish. The measures shall be smooth on all surfaces and edges. The measures shall be free from corrosion, discoloration, or stain. The measures shall have an anodized finish.
