Commercial Item Description in preference to Federal Specification
RR-B-623
This commercial item description covers food storage containers for tea, coffee, flour, and sugar.

The body shall be formed seamless from a single piece of aluminum having a nominal thickness of either 0.040 or 0.022 inch stainless steel.
Covers may be two gages thinner than the body thickness. The top edge of the body shall be forced to fit the cover. The cover shall be a loose-top-type and shall fit the body.
All aluminum surfaces shall have a hard, while lustrous finish.
Must have National Sanitation Foundation (NSF) approval or certification by an independent testing laboratory acceptable to the GSA, indicating that the same model that is being furnished under this description has been inspected and tested and conforms to NSF Standard No.2.
The issue of NSF Standard No.2 in effect on the base of the solicitation shall be used to determine compliance with these requirements.
Workmanship. Canisters shall be free from rough or sharp edges, burrs, slivers, nicks, gouges, scratches, and abrasions. There shall be no defects which may affect serviceability, durability, or appearance.
Certification. The contractor shall certify that the product offered meets the salient characteristics of this description and that the product conforms to the producer’s own drawings, specifications, standards and quality assurance practices and is the same product offered for sale in the commercial marketplace. The Government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance prior to first delivery and thereafter as may be otherwise provided for under the provisions of the contract.
Recovered materials. The manufacturer shall utilize recovered materials to the maximum extent practicable.
Packaging, packing, and marking. The packaged shall be in accordance with normal commercial practice and packed to assure acceptance by common carrier and provide product protection against loss and damage during multiple shipments, handling, and storage. The shipping container shall be in compliance with National Motor Freight Classification and Uniform Freight Classification. Marking shall be in accordance with the contract or order.
