Insulated chamber in order to produce a thermal efficient jug. The jugs shall be equipped with covers, cover gaskets, faucets, faucet guards, and handles (or bails). Inner and outer shells, covers, faucet guards, and handles shall be fabricated of 300 series stainless steel. The bottom of inner shells of size 2 through size 10 jugs shall allow for drainage of the contents by an attach faucet. The jugs shall have a satin or butler finish (finish 1) or a MIL-T-704K Green 383 finish (finish 2), as specified (see 5.2 and 5.6). Each jug shall be permanently and legibly marked with the following: “DO NOT USE FOR MILK OR ANY MILK PRODUCTS”.
2.1.1 Covers. When specified (see 5.2), a venting device shall be a part of the cap assembly. The cap shall be equipped with a device to prevent the loss of the cap. The covers shall be secured to the jug by means of a cam-locking device. The covers shall be sealed with a removable rubber or plastic gasket. At the option of the manufacturer, size 1 jugs may be equipped with a screw-type cover.
2.1.2 Faucets. Faucets may be either key or diaphragm type and shall be protected from damage by guards. Faucets without guards shall be so constructed as to prevent accidental opening.
2.1.3 Handles and bails. Size 1 and 2 jugs shall be supplied with bails and bail mounts. Size 3, 5, and 10 jugs shall be supplied with two rigid drop handles with mounts, located diametrically opposite each other on the upper side walls of the jugs. At the manufacturer’s option, size 1 and size 2 jugs may be supplied with rigid handles.
2.2 Size of jug for Air Force procurements. When specified for Air Force procurements (see 5.2), size 2 jugs shall have an overall height of 19 ± 1/4 inches, and an overall diameter of 8-3/8 ± 1/8 inches, exclusive of faucet, faucet guards, handles, and cover.
2.3 Thermal efficiency. Jug contents shall not exceed the following temperature losses (°F) when filled to capacity with water at a temperature of 204°F to 207°F for six hours at an ambient temperature of 73°F ± 3°F

2.4 Codes and standards. The jugs shall comply with the requirements of NSF International Standard No. 2.
