COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
SCOOP, ICE CREAM, MECHANICAL
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this
Commercial Item Description for all federal agencies.
1. SCOPE
1.1 Scope. This commercial item description (cid) covers mechanical ice cream scoops.
2. CLASSIFICATION
2.1 Classification. The ice cream scoops shall be the following sizes.
Size 6-6 scoops per quart (0.946 L)
Size 8-8 scoops per quart
Size 12-12 scoops per quart
Size 20-20 scoops per quart
Size 30-30 scoops per quart
3. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS
3.1 Materials. All metal parts of the ice cream scoop shall be fabricated from a 300 or 400 series corrosion-resisting steel in accordance with ASTM A 167 or A 276. The handle material shall be a thermosetting plastic, nylon, or polypropylene.
3.2 Design and construction. Each ice cream scoop shall consist of a bowl, bowl knife assembly, handle with color plug (on the end of the handle) or colored handle, and a spring loaded thumb pad for operating the knife assembly. The bowl shall be fabricated from corrosion-resisting steel and shall measure a minimum of 0.025 inch in thickness. The bowl knife assembly and thumb pad shall also be fabricated from corrosion-resisting steel. The handle shall be constructed from molded thermosetting plastic, nylon, or polypropylene and threaded to a shank fabricated from corrosion-resisting steel. The color plug of the handle end or colored handle shall be as listed in table I. Each size bowl shall have the capacity listed in table I when checked with an appropriate, calibrated measure. When the spring loaded thumb pad is depressed, the bowl knife shall rotate at least 180 degrees through the bowl and be returned to its original position upon release without binding or malfunctioning.
3.3 Finish. All exposed metallic surfaces shall be smooth, free from discoloration, rust or stains. The molded handle shall be smooth.
