1. SCOPE.
1.1 Scope. This commercial item description (cid) covers food chopping and slicing boards for institutional and domestic use.
2. CLASSIFICATION.
2.1 Classification. The food slicing boards shall be of the following sizes.
Size 1- 15 inches X 20 inches X 3/4 inch (38.1 X 50.8 X 1.9 cm)
Size 2- 18 inches X 24 inches X 3/4 inch (45.7 X 61.0 X 1.9 cm)
3. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS
3.1 Material. The food slicing boards shall be constructed from either virgin high density polyethylene or virgin polypropylene. Clean, unburned plastic material in the form of imperfect parts of the same composition as the virgin material, may be reground and mixed with the virgin material not to exceed 15 percent by weight of the blended mixture. The boards shall have a Shore D Durometer hardness reading of not less than 55 nor greater than 75 when tested in accordance with ASTM D2240.
3.2 Construction. The food slicing boards shall be one-piece and suitable for use on either side. The boards shall conform to the dimensional requirements of Table I. The boards shall be flat within 1/16 inch (1.6 mm) when placed on a flat surface. The corners and edges of the boards shall be either rounded and smooth, beveled, or flat with sanded corners to remove sharp edges. The color of the boards shall be white. The boards shall have a textured finish.

3.3 Workmanship. The food slicing boards shall be clean, free from voids, cracks, or other defects which may affect appearance or serviceability.
