COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
SKIMMER, KITCHEN
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this
Commercial Item Description for all Federal agencies.
1. SCOPE
1.1 Scope. This commercial item description (cid) covers a stainless steel kitchen skimmer.
2. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS
2.1 Material. The skimmer shall be formed from stainless steel conforming to a type 300 or 400 series in accordance with ASTM A 167, A 176 or A 276.
2.2 Construction. The skimmer shall be in general conformance with figure 1.
2.2.1 Body. The body shall be constructed from a single piece of stainless steel sheet. The body of the skimmer shall measure 6-1/8 inches (15.6 cm), + 1/4, -9/16 inch (+ 6.4, -14.3 mm), in diameter and have a minimum thickness of 0.033 inch (0.8 mm). The center of the body shall have a minimum bowl (depression) of 3/8 inch (9.5 mm). The bowl shall have a minimum of 32 holes with a diameter of 1/8 inch (3.2 mm) minimum to 1/4 inch (6.4 mm) maximum. The hole size shall be consistent on each skimmer.
2.2.2 Handle. The handle of the skimmer shall measure 11-3/4 inches (29.8 cm) minimum in length, 9/16 inch (1.4 cm) minimum in width, and have a minimum thickness of 0.090 inch (2.3 mm). The angle between the vertical axis of the body and handle shall be 40 degrees, + 5 degrees. The handle shall have a curved hook of 7/8 inch (2.2 cm) minimum length. The handle shall be attached to the body with a continuous lap weld or a minimum of two spot welds provided the spot weld joint area is sealed around the edge.
2.3 Finish. The skimmer shall have a No. 3 or better finish as defined by the American Iron and Steel Institute’s Handbook, “Finishes for Stainless Steel”.
2.4 Marking. The skimmer shall be marked with the manufacturer’s name, trade name, or trademark if such known character that the source may be readily determined.
2.5 Workmanship. The skimmer shall be clean and free from dirt, rough or sharp edges, slivers, burrs, deep scratches, tool marks, or other defects which may affect appearance or serviceability.
