COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
PICK, ICE
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this
Commercial Item Description in lieu of Federal Specification GGG-P-323C.
This commercial item description cover ice picks intended for heavy duty use in food preparation facilities to chip or split cakes of rice.
Salient characteristics:
Ice picks shall have a round tapered carbon steel blade firmly set in steel ferruled, straight grained hardwood or durable plastic handle.
The blade shall be not less than 0.135 inch diameter at the handle tapered to a point for chipping ice.
Blade length shall be a minimum of 5 inches.
Exposed length shall be a minimum of 4 inches, maximum of 5 inches.
Blade hardness shall be Rockwell C, 50-56 using ASTM E18 method.
The blade shall be secured to withstand a 25 pound force pull from the handle without becoming loose or separated.
The handle shall be not less than 3 inches in length.
Certification. The contractor shall certify that the product offered meets the salient characteristics of this description and that the product conforms to the producer’s own drawings, specifications, standards and quality assurance practices and is the same product offered for sale in the commercial marketplace. The Government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance prior to first delivery and thereafter as may be otherwise provided for under the provisions of the contract.
Recovered materials. The manufacturer shall utilize recovered materials to the maximum extent practicable.
Packaging, packing, and marking. The ice picks shall be packaged in accordance with normal commercial practice and packed to assure acceptance by common carrier and provide product protection against loss and damage during multiple shipments, handling, and storage. The shipping container shall be in compliance with National Motor Freight Classification and Uniform Freight Classification. Marking shall be in accordance with the contract or order.
