COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
POT, COOKING
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial
item description for all Federal agencies.
1. SCOPE
1.1 Scope. This commercial item description (cid) covers aluminum and
corrosion-resisting steel cooking pots.
2. CLASSIFICATION
2.1 Classification. The cooking shall be of the following types and
sizes, as specified.
Type I – Corrosion-resisting steel
Size 16 – 16 quart capacity (15.1 L)
Type II – Aluminum
Size 14 - 14 quart capacity (13.2 L)
Size 16 - 16 quart capacity (15.1 L)
Size 20 - 20 quart capacity (18.9 L)
Size 24 - 24 quart capacity (22.7 L)
Size 40 - 40 quart capacity (37.9 L)
Size 60 - 60 quart capacity (56.8 L)
3. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS
3.1 Dimensions . The cooking pots shall be the sizes listed in tables I
and II. All dimensions are listed in inches except capacity which is listed in
quarts. A table of metric equivalents is located in section 7. The thickness
shall be measured at any point within the bottom of the pots except for an area
to include the bottom corner radius and up to one inch from the tangent of this
radius and the bottom. The capacity tolerance shall be plus 10 percent, minus 5
percent. All other tolerances, unless otherwise specified, shall be ± 15
percent
3.2 Material.
3.2.1 Type I pot. The type I pot, including handles and cover, shall be
made from type 300 series corrosion-resisting steel.
3.2.2 Type II pots. Type II pots and covers shall be made from type 3000
series aluminum alloy. The pot handles shall be made from 3000 series aluminum
alloy, nickel-chrome plated steel, or nickel plated steel.
