COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
BOTTE, VACUUM
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this
Commercial Item Description in preference to Federal Specification RR-B-600.
This commercial item description covers stainless steel narrow mouth vacuum bottles used for maintaining liquids at or near their original temperature.
Salient characteristics:
The vacuum bottles shall be available in the following sizes:
Size 1 - l-quart +/- 3 ounces
Size 2 - 2-quart +/- 3.5 ounces
Size 3 - l-pint +/- 1.6 ounces
The vacuum bottles shall be constructed with stainless steel outer and inner shells joined by welding or brazing. The stainless steel shall conform to the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) Standard No. A167. The space between the shells shall be insulated by vacuum or by a combination of vacuum and insulation. When filled with water at 205 +/- 2 degrees Fahrenheit the water shall not fall below 170 degrees Fahrenheit when tested as specified, except for the size 3 bottle which shall not fall below 159 degrees Fahrenheit.
The interior surface of the inner shell shall have a 2D or better finish. The exterior of the outer shell shall have a 2B or better finish, a’ dull frosted finish or a brushed No. 4 commercial finish. The finish numbers shall be as defined by the American Iron and Steel Institute. The outer surface of the bottle shall be permanently marked with the manufacturer’s name or trademark, easily identifiable with such manufacturer.
The vacuum bottles shall have a narrow mouth of 2 inches or less inside diameter and shall be provided with a threaded removable plastic stopper and a screw-on plastic or plastic lined stainless steel cup. At the option of the manufacturer, a spigot may included within the stopper.
All plastics used as components which contact the contents of the bottles shall comply with FDA regulations covering polymers for use in contact with food for human consumption as stated in 21 CFR 177. The contractor shall furnish a certificate of compliance for this requirement.
The vacuum bottle shall be furnished with handle(s) or carrying strap(s) of the type normally furnished commercially.
