COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
FOOD TURNER (STEAK OR CAKE)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description in preference to Federal Specification RR-F-575, type I, class A.
This commercial item description covers one type of solid blade food turner.
Salient characteristics:
Shall conform to the general design of figure 1.
Blade and tang shall be formed from one piece of stainless steel.
Blade shall have a Rockwell hardness between C 30 and C 45.
Handle shall be either polypropylene plastic or wood at the option of the manufacturer. Wood used
shall be beech, birch, walnut, ebony, rosewood, hard maple, or other suitable hardwoods which have
similar strength and finishing characteristics.
Overall 7ength shall be 14-1/2 + 1/2 inches.
Blade width shall be 3 + 1/4 inches.
Blade length shall be 7-1/2 + 1/2 inches.
Blade thickness shall be .055 + .005 inches at the heel tapering to .035 + .005 at the tip.
The fit between the handle and tang shall be close and uniform at all points.
Rivets shall completely fill the holes in the tang handle and shall be securely set.
Rivets shall be stainless steel or copper alloy.
Workmanship. The finished turner shall be clean, well made, and free from any defect which may affect appearance or serviceability.
Certification. The contractor shall certify that the product offered meets the salient characteristics of this description, and that the product conforms to the producer’s own drawings, specifications, standards, and quality assurance practices, and is the same product sold in the commercial marketplace. The Government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance prior to the first delivery and thereafter as may be otherwise provided for under the provisions of the contract.
Regulatory requirements. The manufacturer shall utilize recovered materials to the maximum extent practicable.
Packaginq, packinq, and marking. The items shall be packaged in accordance with normal commercial practice and packed to assure acceptance by common carrier and provide product protection against loss and damage during multiple shipments, handling, and storage. The shipping container shall be in compliance with National Motor Freight Classification and Uniform Freight Classification. Shipping containers marked as specified in the contract or order.
